Obituary of Edwin Alston Babb, SR

Please share a memory of Edwin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edwin Alston Babb Sr, 86, of Gray Court, South Carolina passed away on January 27, 2017. Mr. Babb was the son of the late Grady Henry and Luree Abercrombie Babb. He was predeceased by three sisters, Frances Kuczinski, Catherine Lowry and Helen Babb, and three brothers James, Marion and Will Babb. The earth’s landscape has changed now that this generation is gone. We are comforted by the fact they are all now reunited in their Heavenly home. Ed was a United States Air Force Veteran, serving his country in the Korean War. He built and operated Ed’s Handy Mart in Mauldin for twenty-one years, later retiring to his family farm where he loved and cared for the land, as well as the many animals he tended to over the years. He was a member of Rabun Creek Baptist Church where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and RA classes, and served as Deacon. Christ was the very center of his life, and he leaves behind a legacy of an outstanding Christian man whose faith was his compass. Ed is survived by his wife of 65 years, Leslie Stewart Babb, along with his four children, Edwin Babb, Jr. and Shannon, Diane Hodges and Barry, Cynthia Willis, and Bernice Murdock and Danny. There was never a better father or grandfather. His happiest days were when he was surrounded by his family. He leaves behind eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. The family will greet friends on Monday, January 30th at 12:00 p.m., followed by funeral services at 2:00 p.m. at Rabun Creek Baptist Church. The service will be officiated by his pastor and friend, Dr. Clarence Adkins. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rabun Creek Men’s Sunday School Class will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to the church he grew up in, served faithfully, and loved whole-heartedly; Rabun Creek Baptist Church, 17045 Highway 101 South, Gray Court, SC 29645.
