Hazel Martin Owings died peacefully on Wednesday March 15, 2017, at her home in Owings, South Carolina. She was born November 17, 1927 in Owings, SC, the daughter of the late Eric and Alice Martin. She was a graduate of Furman University and worked as a teacher with Laurens District 55 for 30 years. She married Richard Rapley Owings and they lived happily in Owings. She was a lifelong member of Owings United Methodist Church. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and her grandchildren. Her love of cooking will always be remembered by her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was very proud of her family and enjoyed being everyone’s HeyHey. She and her family found many opportunities to be together to share many happy occasions. Mrs. Owings is survived by her daughter, Alice Jane Cleveland (David) of Owings; two granddaughters, Ashley Bair (Mark) of Fountain Inn, and Hannah Cagle (Matt) of Simpsonville; two great-grandchildren, Maggie and Elliott Bair. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and brother, George Martin. Funeral services will be 4:30 pm Friday at Fletcher Funeral Service. Entombment will be private in the mausoleum at Cannon Memorial Park. The family extends their deep appreciation to Buffy Griffin for her loving care for nearly three years. Also, deep felt thanks to Open Arms Hospice of Simpsonville, and Jean Cleveland for all of her help she has given Hazel over the past five years.
