Obituary of Mary Agnes Anderson Martin

Mary Anderson Martin, widow of Edward Luther Martin Jr., cherished mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She peacefully departed this life Thursday morning, April 13, 2017, and now resides in Heaven with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She is freed from the shackles of this earthly life; and has been born anew where there is no sorrow, no pain, no tears and “no fussin’.” Born the fifth child to Benjamin Mason Anderson and Mary Philson Anderson on February 18, 1918. Mary was born and raised in Spartanburg County and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She met her future husband, Luther while teaching in the Greenville County school district in Simpsonville, S.C. She and Luther married June 7, 1941. They lived in the farming community in the Fairview Road area of Simpsonville, and raised two children. Mary’s Christian home was inviting and welcomed people from all walks of life. Many mouths were fed around her kitchen table. While Mary was always available for family, her love, affection and willingness to help other went far beyond. Mary touched many lives and had a servant’s heart, which was evident in her actions. She was a trusted and reliable friend who never hesitated to say yes when called upon. Not task was too large or incidental. If you needed her, she was there. Mary was a faithful member of Fairview Presbyterian Church for 70 years. She was a Sunday School teacher and taught “Children’s Church.” Those left behind to continue and honor her legacy of generosity and faithfulness include Mary’s children, John Anderson Martin of Simpsonville, S.C., Mary Kay Crosby and her husband Stan of Easley, S.C. Her Grandchildren, Matthew Tollison and wife Leah of Greenville, S.C., Jay Martin and girlfriend Sharon of Honea Path, S.C., Brandi and husband Chris Riggins of Fountain Inn, S.C., Dr. Clay Crosby and wife Jordan of Greenville, S.C., Chelsea and husband Scott Bunn of Seneca, S.C., Mark Crosby and wife Tracy of Duncan, S.C., Kay Ingrum and husband Kent of Columbia, S.C., Daniel Crosby and wife Tresh of Easley, S.C.; additionally, Mary’s lifelong friend and “double first cousin,” Sara Fowler. Great-grandchildren include Anderson and Stella Tollison, Hopkins Crosby, Abel Bunn, Tyler, Paige and Courtney Crosby, Ryan Ingrum and wife Joanne, Hilary, Zachary and Isaac Ingrum, Mckenna, Silas, Cullen, Anna Crosby, Dylan Langston and wife Moriah; and many nieces and a nephew. The family will receive friends Monday, April 16, 2017 from 1:15 until 2:45 at Fariview Presbyterian Church in the gymnasium/social hall. Service will be at 3:00pm at Fairview, officiated by Randy Harling and Buddy Spivey. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers include grandsons and close family friends. It is respectfully requested that those that wish to honor Mary, submit a memorial to the Fairview Presbyterian Church Cemetery fund (126 Fariview Church Road, Fountain Inn, S.C. 29644) or the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, N.C. 28201). Blessings and gratitude to friends who helped with Mary’s care, including Dorothy Colletta, Frankie Moore, Staff at Foothills Presbyterian Home in Easley, S.C., and Gentiva Hospice staff. Special appreciation, also to granddaughter Brandi Martin Riggins for all the care and love she gave her Grandmother for the past 15 years. Each individual went above and beyond to extend care and compassion to Mary and her family.
