Obituary of Alice Eleanor Ellenburg Lawson

Alice Eleanor Ellenburg Lawson, age 88 of Simpsonville, passed away on June 12, 2017. She was born to the late Waddy Ernest and Lena Alexander Ellenburg on March 19, 1929 in Pickens, SC.  She was the widow of the late Arthur Ray Lawson.

Eleanor thoroughly enjoyed looking after her family, time spent at the lake, and working in her garden. She attended Martin School and Pickens High School. She then moved to Greenville to seek employment and lived at the YWCA.  Eleanor married Arthur Ray Lawson and enjoyed a long life together in Simpsonville, SC where they raised their son Leonard Ken Lawson. Eleanor work for years at Hav-A-Hank later called Carolina Manufacturing before retiring in 1994. After retirement she helped raise her grandchildren. She taught Sunday school, and was a member of the Neal Young Missionary Group along with various other committees’ at Clear Spring Baptist Church. She also delivered Meals on Wheels to those in need.

Eleanor is survived by her son, Ken Lawson (Linda) of Simpsonville; two grandchildren Jeffrey Lawson (Lori) of Greer and Beth Lawson Gillis (Clint) of Powdersville; four great grandchildren, Parker, Paxton and Palmer Lawson of Greer and Kylee Gillis of Powdersville; sister Evelyn E. Vaughn (Harmon) of Greenville; brother-in-law J.W. Autrey of Greenville; sister-in-law Zelda O. Ellenburg of Easley; and many nieces and nephews.  She is also preceded in death by sisters; Alvie McClain and Peggy Autrey; and brothers, Clyde, Wyatt, Albert, Clifton, Levoy, Eugene and Maurice Ellenburg.

Visitation will be held at Clear Spring Baptist Church (301 Bethany Road, Simpsonville, SC 29681) June 14, 2017 from 1 to 2pm The funeral will follow and burial will be in the church cemetery.
