Obituary of Bernice Bragg Lacy

Bernice Bragg Lacy, 87, of Laurens, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018. Born in Hometown, WV on March 22, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Eugene Elvin and Almedia Mae Higganbotham Bragg. Bernice loved to crotchet, and spent a lot of her time making quilts. She enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, and bird-watching. She was of the Baptist faith, and was well known for her collection of angels and coffee mugs.

 

She is survived by her ex-husband, William E. Lacy; two sons, Michael D. Lacy, Sr. of Laurens, SC and Arthur E. Lacy of Charleston, WV; two daughters, Barbara Sue Jeffers of Laurens, SC and Elizabeth Ann Byrd of Milton, WV; a sister, Lillian Kathalee Burgess of Gray Court, SC; a brother, Lewis Aaron Bragg of Loves Park, IL; as well as eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

 

In addition to her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosalee Townson and Almedia Hedrick; five brothers, Charles, Harold, Ira Lee, Clifford, and Clarence Bragg; and one grandson, Craig McCallister.

 

The funeral service for Mrs. Lacy will be held at 2:30pm on Sunday, January 21, 2018, in the chapel at Fletcher Funeral Service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home an hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:30pm. Interment will follow in Graceland East Cemetery.
