Obituary of David Swinton Boyd, Jr.

David Swinton Boyd, Jr., husband of Cheryl Shives Boyd, died Sunday, November 6, 2016. Dave was born January 13, 1940 to the late Dave and Annie Lucille Boyd. He was a graduate of Towson High School in Towson, MD. Passionate about The Citadel, Dave graduated in 1962 with a BS in Civil Engineering and later served on the Citadel Board of Visitors. He served in the US Army upon graduation followed by a career in construction. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter Margaret Boyd Franklin and husband Herb, and their children Jonathan, Meg, and Will; a son, David Boyd III and wife Dana and their children, Davis and Caroline; a son, Jim Boyd and wife Stephanie and their children, Jackson and Creighton; a son, Bruce Boyd and wife Crystal and their children, Walker and Austin; a daughter, Mary Brockman Finney and husband Harrison and their children, Shives, Abbie, Avery, Harrison, and Benjamin; a sister, Harriet Boyd Funk and husband John and their son Stephen Funk. He was predeceased by his first wife, Emily Tribble Boyd, a brother, Dan Boyd and a nephew Marshall Boyd. Memorial Services will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, November 10, 2016 at John Knox Presbyterian Church, 35 Shannon Drive, Greenville, SC. The family will receive friends that day at 12 PM in the Kirk Room at the church.
