Obituary of Yvonne Knight

Paula Yvonne Fletcher Knight, 83, entered the presence of her Heavenly Father and was reunited with her late husband, Hugh Knight, Wednesday, December 28th at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House. Yvonne was born April 8, 1939 to the late A.B. and Cleo Fletcher. Yvonne married the love of her life, Hugh, and became his “Maude” on June 20, 1954. Together, they raised five sons. Yvonne was a strong woman with a strong work ethic. Being a faithful wife to her husband and mother to her sons as they served the community, Yvonne served right beside them as a Spartanburg County dispatcher and member of the Westview-Fairforest Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was employed for many years with Butte Knitting Mills, was co-owner of the former Top of the Lake Resort and Restaurant at Lake Murray and Knight’s Garden Center. Yvonne finished her working career in the offices of Sisk Scrap Recycling, retiring in November of 2021 at the age of 82. Yvonne didn’t work these later years because she had to, but because she found joy in keeping herself busy. When not working, Yvonne would occupy her time mastering crossword and sudoku puzzles, watching her “stories” and Hallmark movies. Yvonne loved her Lord and was a member of her childhood church Bethany Wesleyan Church, where she previously served as Treasurer just as her mother did many years ago. She was also a past member of First Baptist Church of Moore and Green Pond Baptist Church. Yvonne and Hugh together raised a large family. Left to cherish her memory are sons Danny Knight, Allan Knight, and Jeff Knight of Spartanburg, and Robbie Knight and his wife Candie of Moore, 15 grandchildren (Michael, Mandy, Kevin, Shaun, Rob, Jennifer, Heath, Kayla, Chad, Chase, Cortney, Caleb, Zack, Kyle, and Olivia) and 37 great-grandchildren, many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Yvonne was predeceased by a son Steven Knight and his wife Julie, daughters-in-law Sherri Knight and Dianne Knight, brothers Junior and Alfred Fletcher, and sister Betty Fletcher Hayes. A celebration of Yvonne’s life will be held at Bethany Wesleyan Church on Sunday, January 1st at 3:00 PM. Family will receive friends for 1.5 hours prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons. The family will be at their respective homes.
