Jerry Wayne Hammond, 71, husband of Laura Jane Uptagrafft Hammond for 37 years, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 14, 2023.

Mr. Hammond was born in Greenville to the late Carl Junior “Boots” Hammond and Geneva Mae Neal Hammond. He was a member of Church of Christ and retired from Steele Heedle Company. Wayne was a former member of the Future Farmers of America and a garden enthusiast. He collected rocks and seashells. He enjoyed fishing and watching crime dramas, especially Sherlock Holmes and Law & Order. Jerry was very proud of his 1967 GTO, and has an exact model of it for display. He enjoyed family outings and being Papa to his grandchildren.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Jake Hammond; two daughters, Melissa Davis with husband Glenn, and Julie Hammond; three brothers, Dwight Hammond with wife Jean, Kenneth Hammond, and Larry Shaw; a sister Pam Turner; and five grandchildren, Michael Hammond, David Davis, Karlie Davis, Landin Hammond, and Kyle Bagwell.

Graveside services will be 2 o’clock Tuesday at Graceland East Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:15 – 1:45 pm in the mausoleum chapel of the cemetery.
