Obituary of Ben M. Smith, Jr.

Ben Marvin Smith, Jr., 83, husband of Judy Thackston Smith for 48 years, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 8, 2025.

Mr. Smith was born in Fountain Inn to the late Ben Marvin Smith, Sr. and Olive Mae Drummond Smith.  He was an alumnus of the Clemson University Class of 1963 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Textile Management.  He was a member of the Phi Psi Fraternity. He worked many years at Her Majesty in Mauldin,SC and was later a consultant for STAG, Inc.

Ben enjoyed fishing, hunting, billiards, and working on cars – especially Volkswagons.  He played baseball and softball throughout his life and was a huge fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Clemson Tigers.  In his youth, Ben played the piano and sang on radio broadcasts and was a member of the Glee Club at Clemson University.  

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Debbie Smith and Cathie Amick with husband Randall; and two granddaughters, Asheton Amick and Kaylon Amick.  He was predeceased by a son, Ben M. Smith, III.

A Celebration of Ben’s Life will begin at 2 o’clock Thursday at Fletcher Funeral Service in Fountain Inn.  The burial will be in Cannon Memorial Park.
