Pop, as he was known to his family, served in the United States Navy and retired from American Security. He enjoyed being outdoors spending his free time fishing and camping. He was also a western film fan of Audie Murphy and John Wayne.

Pop is survived by the love of his life, Sarah Walker “Nanny”; four sons, Jim Barton, Jerry Walker, Charles Walker (Michelle), and JT Walker; two daughters, Darlene Phillips, and Zera Garrett (Rob); a brother, Roy; three sisters, Lenora, Alice, and Ethel; and many, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, one of whom is his eternal fishing buddy, Amanda. In addition to his parents, Pop was preceded in death by two siblings, a brother, Claude “Junior”; and a sister, Pat.

"God, grant that I may live to fish until my dying day, and when it comes to my last cast, I then most humbly pray; When in the Lord's safe landing net I'm peacefully asleep, that in His mercy, I be judged as good enough to keep."
