Donna Jean DuPage, 91, widow of John Henry DuPage, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 18, 2025. Born in Chicago, IL, on June 15, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Howard LeRoy Hakes and Mary Vanieta Eye Hakes.
Donna and John were married on June 16, 1949 in Pekin, IL. While living there, she worked at Pekin Insurance until retiring in 2000, served as the leader of The Women of the Moose the Pekin Chapter, and attended church at First Baptist Church. Donna was an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago White Sox fan. After retiring and moving to Fountain Inn, in November 2000, she became an active member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She faithfully served as a Sunday school teacher and helped run the church’s pantry. Donna loved the Lord and the Gospel and always took time to listen and witness to anyone that wanted to learn. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, listening to music, reading, watching old movies, and watching football games either high school or college where her grandsons played. Donna was mother to 5 children whom she loved dearly and enjoyed being with family most of all.
Donna is survived by three daughters, Mary Ann Paulson of Morton, IL, Karen S. Crum (Richard) of Simpsonville, SC, and Luann L. Chasco (Patrick) South Pekin, IL; 15 grandchildren and loved each one of them dearly; 40 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law whom she treasured like a daughter, Denise DuPage of East Moline, IL; a sister Linda Shimel (Willis) of Wilson, NC; and several nephews and nieces. In addition to her husband and parents, Donna was proceeded in death by two sons Dale A. DuPage and John L. DuPage, both of Pekin, IL; two brothers Robert Hakes and John Hakes; and a sister Mariellyn (Hakes) Smagur.
The family will receive friends at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church on Saturday, April 26th from 10:30 to 11:00 am. A celebration of life will follow at 11:00 am. Donna will be laid to rest next to her husband in Pekin, Il.
