Laura Elizabeth Shirley Pilkington, 55, of Simpsonville, South Carolina, died unexpectedly on June 7, 2025.

Born September 15, 1969, in Camden, SC, Laura was a force of nature—sharp, funny, fiercely independent, and deeply loyal to the people and causes she cared about.  She built a wide circle of friends, neighbors, and chosen family who meant the world to her.  Whether advocating for animals, helping someone through a rough patch, or simply showing up with coffee and a story, Laura led with her heart and wasn’t afraid to speak her mind.

She is survived by her mother, Sarah Pace Shirley, and her brother, Kevin Reid Shirley.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Pilkington, and her father, Donald Fletcher Shirley.

Laura leaves behind three beloved dogs who brought her joy and companionship.  Efforts are underway to find them a new home together—something she would have cared about deeply.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 20, at Fletcher Funeral Service, 1218 N Main Street, Fountain Inn, SC 29644.
