Martha Gerdt Obituary

Martha Ann Reed Gerdt, 95, wife of Clarence Henry Gerdt for 77 years, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.


 


Mrs. Gerdt was born in East Alton, IL to the late Oscar Turner “O.T.” Reed, Sr. and Lola Vivian Adams Reed.  She was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Simpsonville.  Martha and Clarence traveled through this world together – visiting every US state and several countries.  She enjoyed camping and quilting.  Martha loved music and particularly enjoyed singing in the church choir.  She cherished being “Grandma” to her grandchildren.


 


Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sons, Barry Gerdt with wife Gail, and Tom Gerdt with wife Debbi; a daughter, Judy Weldy; nine grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by a son, Larry Gerdt; a brother, Oscar Reed, Jr.; a sister, Vivian Herbst; and a son-in-law, Tim Weldy.


 


Graveside services will begin at 11 o’clock Monday at Graceland East Memorial Park, officiated by Pastor Greg Ince.


 


Memorials in Martha’s honor may be made to Wilds Christian Association, P.O. Box 509, Taylors, SC 29687-0009.
