Sara Loraine Stone Woodson, 101, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
Mrs. Woodson was born in Pelzer to the late John Roy Stone and Marguerite Vera Berry Stone. She was a former member of First Baptist Simpsonville and present member of First Baptist Church Laurens. She was a longtime resident of Martha Franks Retirement Community. Loraine received her Bachelor's Degree from Furman University and Masters Degree from Texas Woman's University." She was a retired teacher from Parker High School and Monaview Middle School after 42 years of service. After retirement, she worked as the Bookstore Manager at Greenville Technical College for many years.
Surviving are a son, John Woodson with wife Tanna; a daughter, Linda Smith with husband Byron; a granddaughter, Carrie Thomas with husband Patterson; and two great-grandchildren, Elloree and Addie; three nephews, Curran R. Stone, Charles Edwards and Tommy Edwards, and two nieces, Elaine W. Marshbanks and Diane W. Harmon. She was predeceased by a brother, Curran Stone; and two sisters-in-law, Katherine Stone and Martha Stone.
The family wishes to express sincere thanks to Leigh Mizzell, who was like a daughter to Mrs. Woodson. Leigh would visit regularly and run errands for and with Mrs. Woodson. They also want to thank Nancy Coggins, social director for many years at Martha Franks for her dedication to Mrs. Woodson and all the residents. And finally, the family wants to thank Mrs. Woodson’s CNAs, Sarah Mallack, Angela Baker, and Dicey Copeland for their dedication to caring for mother.
A celebration of Loraine’s life will begin at 2 o’clock Saturday, September 27th in the Rasor Chapel of Martha Franks Retirement Community. Burial in Greenville Memorial Gardens will be private.
