George McSwain Smith, Jr., 73, husband of Paula Frances Dohmann Martin, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 22, 2025. Born in Greenville, George was the son of the late Dr. George McSwain Smith and Leon Evelyn Morgan Smith.
George graduated from Hillcrest High School and attended Wofford College, but his true calling was the family’s farm, Triway Farms. George owned and operated an electrical fencing company that went hand in hand as a cattle farmer. He raised Blue Heeler cattle dogs and Shorthorn cattle and loved showing them at the State and local fairs. After retiring from the farm, George and Paula enjoyed working in real estate for 20+ years. George was a member of the Shriners for 50 years. In his spare-time, he enjoyed bringing his family to and watching Clemson football games.
George is survived by his son, Billy Martin and wife, Kim, of Murfreesboro, TN; two grandsons, Landon and Brendan Martin; a sister, Evelyn Smith Jones and husband, Bill, of Lexington County; and many extended family members.
A visitation will be held at Fletcher Funeral Service on Saturday, October 4, 2025 from 10:30 am – 11:30 am. A celebration of life will follow in the chapel at Fletcher Funeral Service. Burial will follow the service at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in George’s honor to the Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine at Clemson University, Hendrix Student Center, 3rd Floor 720 McMillan Rd, Clemson, SC 29631 or online at Harvey S. Peeler, Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine.
