Tom Wengert Obituary

Thomas Robert “Tom” Wengert, 58, beloved husband of Jennifer, entered into the presence of the Lord on Saturday, December 6, 2025.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Tom was the son of Deirdri Louise Dorsey and the late Allan Benjamin VanAlstine, Sr.  He was a devoted member of First Baptist Simpsonville, where he and Jennifer joyfully served in the Kids Ministries, teaching the 4- and 5-year-olds.  Tom had a heart for missions and found great fulfillment partnering with White Horse Missions.

Professionally, Tom worked for Ford Motor Credit for 35 years.  He was an enthusiastic fan of the Baltimore Ravens, Baltimore Orioles, and Clemson Tigers. His love for sports extended to coaching his kids’ soccer teams and competing as an avid runner in marathons, triathlons, and Spartan races.  Tom also enjoyed brewery tours and sampling IPAs.

Above all, Tom cherished traveling with Jennifer.  Together, they celebrated each anniversary in a new destination, collecting Christmas ornaments as keepsakes from their adventures.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer and their children; his mother, Dee VanAlstine; two brothers, Al VanAlstine (Kimberley) and Christopher VanAlstine; and one sister, Lisa Marie Rek (Brad).

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday in the sanctuary of First Baptist Simpsonville - Downtown campus. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Memorials in Tom’s honor may be made to White Horse Missions, P.O. Box 38
