Ann Slovinski Obituary

Ann Marie (Ferrick) Slovinski, age 64, passed away peacefully at rest on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 after a hard-fought battle against breast cancer.

Ann was born in Pittsburgh, PA on October 4, 1961, and was primarily raised in Hillsdale, NJ from the time she was a toddler.  She was the youngest of 4 siblings, two brothers and a sister.  Her parents, Frank G. and Catherine (Duffy) Ferrick, both previously deceased, raised her proudly as Irish in the Catholic faith.  Ann married Kenneth J. Steketee in 1980 and had one daughter, Jean Marie.  Even though they later divorced, Ann and Ken remained friends and co-parented well, with Ken even visiting her in the hospital towards the end of her life.  Ann had married a second husband, but was separated from him for over a decade at the time of her passing.  Her whole focus was on her little family as her pride and joy.  Ann was a devoted mother and ‘Nana Ann’ to her grandchildren.

Ann and her daughter spent every Tuesday together, calling their special day “Mommy and Me Tuesday”.  Tuesdays were for having lunch at Chili’s with her daughter and son-in-law, thrift shopping at Goodwill, going to the movies or putt putt golf with the grandkids, and enjoying biweekly trips to the beauty parlor for hair appointments, facials, and pedicures that always finished with varying shades of pink toenails.  Ann love cheeseburgers and Diet Pepsi almost as much as she loved her family.  She loved animals, especially dogs and kittens.  She loved the beach in Brigantine, NJ.  She liked listening to music by John Lennon and Olivia Newton-John, but mostly she wholeheartedly adored Barry Manilow.  She loved to laugh and enjoyed displaying a dry but quirky sense of humor.  She always said exactly what was exactly on her mind in the most endearing way.  Everyone loved her.  She cared more about others than she ever did for herself.  She never forgot a birthday or a phone number.  She had a way of making you feel like you were the most important person in the room, and she made everyone she talked to feel that way including the nurses and staff on her care team.  Ann never met a stranger.  She overcame many obstacles in her life due to continuing health problems from the time she was a child, but she was a fighter.  Her mother often said she was a “tough cookie”.  She didn’t let the cancer take her.  She made it wait until she was ready.

Ann Marie Slovinski is survived by her daughter, Jean Marie (Steketee) Bagwell, and son-in-law Rick Bagwell, II of Pelzer, SC and four grandchildren Samuel Bagwell, Bethany Ann Bagwell, Rachel Bagwell, and Noah Bagwell.  She is also survived by her siblings Kevin Ferrick of Lewes, Delaware and Kathleen (Ferrick) Santanello of Union City, Pennsylvania, along with many nieces and nephews who affectionately called her “Aunt Ann”, close family friends, and a large extended family in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, all of whom loved her unconditionally for being exactly who she is.  She is irreplaceable and tremendously missed.
