Clifton Lafayette “Cliff” Calvert, Jr., 83, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
Mr. Calvert was born in Fountain Inn to the late Clifton Lafayette Calvert, Sr. and Ruby Thompson Calvert. He was a member of Hillside Baptist Church. Cliff was the founder of C&H Home Repair and worked at the Greenville City Police Department and for Jenning Dill, Inc before retiring. He was a graduate of the SC Law Enforcement Academy and a volunteer fireman with the Cane Break Fire Department. Cliff was known as a master story-teller and deal seeker at local auctions. He was a collector of knives and enjoyed fishing, hunting, birdwatching, gardening and raising chickens. He loved watching Westerns, but his greatest joy was being “Papa” to his grandchildren.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandi Cannon with husband Jeff; a son, James D. Ivey with wife Allyson; five grandchildren, Joseph Griffith with wife Nikki, Jeffrey Griffith with wife Rachel, and Jenna McConaghy with husband Trent, Rachel Smith with husband Stephen, and Leah Parker with husband Justin; ten great-grandchildren, Alaina, Georgia, Luke, Adeline, Emma, Noah, Bentley, Haven, Eli, and Parker; his longtime companion, Jewell Dillard of 23 years and her daughter, Andrea Talley; and a special nephew, Jimmy Hendrix. He was predeceased by two sons, Clifton “Trey” Calvert III and Lonnie Ivey; a brother, Lowell Calvert; two sisters, Ruby Nell Skeens and Mary Jo Hufshmidt; and two half-sisters, Ella Mae Calvert Smith and Catherine Peden Padgett; and a grandson, Richard Langley.
A celebration of Cliff’s life will begin at 2 o’clock Friday at Hillside Baptist Church. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
