Beverly Fonokalafi Obituary
Beverly Marie Hixon Fonokalafi, 78, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 27, 2026.
Ms. Fonokalafi was born in Jefferson, ME to the late Wilfred Hixon and Olive Louise Parker Hixon. Beverly was known for her kind heart, spunky spirit, and “Hixon stubbornness”. She always had an eye for art and a nack for photography. When it came to careers, she found a way to combine her attention to detail in relation to art, her love of the perfect photograph, and what she was most passionate about, caring for others. She was graduate of Glen Cove Christian Academy, Bible Institute of New England (BINE), and received her degree from Northeastern University, in Boston MA in Radiation Therapy. She spent her early career at Saugus General Hospital before moving to Hawaii and working at hospitals there. She wrapped up her career as an X-Ray Tech in the outpatient setting with Mobile X, she most enjoyed sharing her knowledge with X-Ray students as they did their mobile rotation in clinicals. Beverly had several jobs over the years, but her favorite was being mom. She didn’t limit this title to her own, but also to the kids that adopted her and vice versa over the years. When she was promoted to “Grammie” and “Great-Grammie”, the source of joy her grandkids brought her is unmeasurable.
Surviving are two sons, John Fonokalafi (Robin) and Brent Fonokalafi (Denise); a daughter, Lesley “Mele” Fonokalafi (Ryan); a brother, Bill Hixon; four grandchildren, Kohl Fonokalafi (Destiny), Logan Fonokalafi (Rachel), Emma Fonokalafi (AJ) and Ella Fonokalafi; and two greatgrandchildren, Kian and Dahlia. She also has lots of nieces and nephews across the globe that she adored dearly. She was predeceased by three brothers, Donald Hixon, Herb Hixon, and Brent Hixon; a sister, Florence Browning; and her beloved dog, Beauregard.
A celebration of Beverly’s life will begin at 3:30, Sunday, March 15, 2026 at The Magnolia Pavilion in Heritage Park, Simpsonville.
Memorials in Beverly’s honor may be made to Greenville County Animal Care, 328 Furman Hall Road, Greenville, SC 29609; or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
