Mike Armstrong Obituary
Lawrence Michael Armstrong (Mike), 64, of Fountain Inn, passed away on March 21, 2026.
Born to Shirley Campbell Armstrong and the late Lawrence Stewart Armstrong, Mike grew up with a deep love for the outdoors and a strong devotion to family. He spent his life farming, hunting, and fishing, places where he felt most at peace and himself.
Mike leaves behind his children, Jessie Reid (Junior), Shannon Sherard (Steven), and Annie Trout (Dennis), who will forever carry his strength and spirit forward. His grandchildren, Johnny Long, Justin Finlay (fiancé Whitney Blanton), Sky Sosbee (Daniel), Devan Trout (Case), Kammy Barton (Luke), and Carter Trout (fiancé Brooke Sherman)—were a source of immense pride and joy. He was also blessed with three great‑grandchildren, Brooks Barton, Blaire Barton, and Eliana Sosbee. He is survived by his mother, Shirley Campbell Armstrong, and his sisters, Teresa Armstrong, Debbie Freeman (Joe Levy), and Lynn Lowe (Keith). He is also survived by his girlfriend, Inez Cox; his nieces Flannery Freeman (Joseph White & great niece Delilah White) and Stephanie Lowe (Tim Morris & great nephew Gavin Morris), and his nephew, Daniel Freeman (fiancé Megan Austin). In addition to his family, Mike is remembered by many close friends who were like family to him throughout his life. Mike was preceded in death by his loving wife, Judy Armstrong, and by his father, Lawrence Stewart Armstrong.
A hardworking man with a steady presence, Mike dedicated 18 years to the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) before retiring. Prior to that, he worked many years with Greenville County, building a career marked by reliability, commitment, and pride in a job well done. In addition to his state and county service, he spent many years serving his community as a volunteer fireman with the Dunkin Bridge Fire Department. After retiring from SCDOT, Mike embraced farming full time. His passion for the land filled his days, often leading him to say he was “busier after retiring than when he worked a real job.” He devoted countless hours to learning more about soil, seed, equipment, and the craft of farming. His dedication to the farming community recently led him to accept a position as a Member of the Board of Directors of Greenville County Farm Bureau officer, where he was Chairman of the building and grounds committee, a role he was proud to serve in. Mike will be remembered for his tireless work ethic, his love of the land, and the quiet, steady way he cared for the people around him.
Serving as pallbearers, and honored to assist in laying Mike to rest, will be Jamie Gambrell, Justin Davis, Matt Sims, Charles Camp, Luke Barton, and Daniel Sosbee.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1-3pm at Lebanon Church, 1450 Dunklin Bridge Road, Honea Path, SC. Funeral services will begin 3pm, Tuesday, at Lebanon Church officiated by Rev. Ritchie Doss and Rev. Martin Foster. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials in Mike's honor can be made to Woodmont High School FFA; 2831 W. Georgia Rd, Piedmont, SC 29673.
