James Victor “Jim” Shimek, Jr., 67, husband to Janet Elizabeth Tyler Shimek for 33 years, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

Mr. Shimek was born in Baltimore, MD to the late James Victor Shimek, Sr. and Evelyn Marie Bender Shimek.  He was a member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church and retired from the Baltimore County Municipal Government.  Jim was an avid Baltimore Ravens fan and enjoyed each season – win or lose!  He enjoyed being with family and going out to eat.  He was a collector of DVD movies.  Jim and Janet loved to travel and explore destinations together.  He dearly loved his cats and served as a volunteer with The Kitty Krew in Woodruff.  He was blessed to be Pop-Pop to his grandchildren.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Chris Wessell with wife Debora, and Kyle Shimek with wife Tal Eyal; a daughter, Kaityln Shimek; a brother, Dave Shimek with wife Karen; two sisters, Trish Shimek and Linda Shimek; two grandchildren, Maya Elizabeth Shimek and Oren James Shimek; and his beloved cats, Franklin and Winston.

A celebration of Jim’s life will begin at 11 o’clock Saturday at Holy Communion Lutheran Church.  The family will receive friends following the service.
