Charlene Barnes Obituary

June Charlene Barnes, 65, widow of Wesley Barnes, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.  Born in Asheville, she was a daughter of the late Charles Cleveland Honeycutt and Betty Grace Lovin Honeycutt.

Charlene worked at Bi-Lo for 45 years until the company was acquired by Food Lion from which she retired.  She enjoyed spending time with her friends, had a good sense of humor, and knew how to have a good time.  Charlene loved spending time in the garden and hanging out at the pool.  And did she love NASCAR?  Dale, yeah!  Charlene was such a Dale Earnhardt fan that she was married on 3/3/2003 at 3:03 pm.  Charlene’s greatest joy came as Nana and Grams to her grandchildren.  She always took time to have lunch with them at school, watch them after school, and be a spectator to their extracurricular activities.

Charlene is survived by her daughter, Samantha “Sam” Watkins with husband Adam; four grandchildren, Wyatt Watkins, Emory Watkins, Tyler Thomas, and Jenna Godfrey; four great grandchildren; a brother, Doyle Rogers with wife Wenona from North Carolina; and three sisters, Darlene Sawitski with husband Ray, Tina Honeycutt, and Deana Young with husband David.  She was preceded in death by her son, Matthew Thomas.

A celebration of Charlene’s life will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026 at Fletcher Funeral Service beginning at 2:00 pm.  The family will visit with friends following the service.
