Carolyn Vetzel Obituary
Carolyn Reeve Vetzel, born in Aldeburgh, Suffolk, England, on November 29, 1943, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, in Pelzer, South Carolina, surrounded by her loving family.
Born to William and Nancy Newton, Carolyn spent her childhood on England's picturesque Suffolk coast. She carried her English heritage with her throughout her life, sharing her warmth, wit, and distinctly English sense of humor with everyone she met. In the 1960s, Carolyn moved from England to the United States, where she built a life centered on family, friendship, and creating a welcoming home for all who knew her. In later years, she found companionship and happiness with her longtime partner, Jim Butler, with whom she shared many treasured memories.
Carolyn was a deeply devoted and protective mother to her two children, Mark and Lisa, and a loyal friend whose kindness touched everyone she met. As a stay-at-home mother, she dedicated herself to creating a loving, spotless home and caring for her family. An exceptional cook and baker, Carolyn was renowned among family and friends as the undisputed Queen of Yorkshire pudding and sausage rolls. Through her cooking, hospitality, and thoughtful acts of kindness, she expressed her love and made everyone feel welcome, valued, and cared for.
Carolyn will be remembered for her quick wit, her strength, her generous spirit, and the unwavering love she gave to her family and friends. Her home was always a welcoming place, and her legacy lives on in the memories, traditions, and recipes she shared with those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Nancy Newton, and her sister, Sheila.
Carolyn is survived by her longtime partner, Jim Butler; her son, Mark Vetzel and his wife, Rhonda, of Simpsonville, South Carolina; her daughter, Lisa Vetzel Cherland and her husband, Jay, of Palm Bay, Florida; her cherished grandchildren, Courtney Koll of Charleston, SC, Taylor Vetzel of Blythewood, SC, and Nick Cherland of Palm Bay, FL; as well as her beloved great-grandchildren, Charlie Koll, Wells Koll, and Ollie Koll, all of Charleston, SC. She is also survived by her brother, John Reeve, and her sister, Susan Burns, both of Leiston, England.
