Obituary of Carol Marks Brennan

Carol Marks Brennan, resident of Simpsonville, SC, passed away on October 31, 2019, at the age of 57, due to complications after surgery.  She is survived by her husband Dave Brennan, and siblings Fred Marks (Jean) of Canton, MS; Roseanne Elson (Steve) of Phoenix, AZ; Steve Marks (Terry) of Brandon, MS; John Marks (Joni) of Jackson, TN; Sara Marks of Tampa, FL; Jodi Beninati (Jay) of New Orleans; numerous nieces and nephews, and is predeceased by her parents Rose and Simon Marks, and brother Thomas Marks.

Born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi to Rose and Simon Marks, Carol graduated with honors from Murrah High School 1979 and was a Deans List graduate from the University of Mississippi School of Nursing 1983.  She then worked at the Veterans Hospital in Jackson before joining the United States Navy Nurse Corps in 1984.  She resigned her commission at the rank of Lieutenant after 5 1/2 years of working in ICU and CCU at Naval Hospitals in Groton, CT and Bethesda, MD.  Carol then worked as a travel nurse before moving to New Orleans where she worked in various area hospitals.  In 1997, she married the love of her life, Dave, a petroleum engineer with Texaco.  They were married in New Orleans, and subsequently moved to Sugarland, TX, Calgary, Canada, and Spring, TX due to Dave’s work with Texaco and then Chevron.  Retirement brought them to Simpsonville in 2015. Carol and Dave took many great vacations including Caribbean Cruises, trips with family to the South Carolina Coast, and to their favorite vacation spot, Hawaii.

Carol was a truly compassionate person.  She would seek out new friendships on a regular basis, and she had many very close friends.  She dearly loved quilting and crafting, cooking and baking, and reading - a life long passion.  Rescued pets had a special place in her heart.  Carol will be missed for many reasons, but especially for her soft voice, wonderful laugh, and her truly generous and caring nature.
