Obituary of Charles Morris King

Charles Morris King, 86, husband of Kathleen Hamby King for 68 years, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 26, 2020. Mr. King was born in Whitmire to the late Morris Charles King and Dalma Jester King- Manning. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Fountain Inn Wesleyan Church. With his sisters, he sang gospel music many years in the King Trio. He collected gospel records and enjoyed singing and music. Charles enjoyed fixing things, writing journals and sending birthday cards to family and friends. His greatest joy was being PaPa to his grandchildren. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Morris King II and wife Janis; two daughters, Kathy Baughman and husband Sam, and Kim Mahaffey and husband Mark; a daughter-in-law, Linda King; eight grandchildren, Jodi Whitfield, Gina Thompson-Leonard and husband J.P., Adrienne MacLeod and husband Corey, Corey Cothran, Alicia Mahaffey, Asa Mahaffey, Kyle King and John King; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Mike King; four sisters, Arlene Crisson, Betty Mattison, Wilma Mattison and Julia Weathers; a grandson, Troy Mauldin; and stepfather, George Manning. A Celebration of Charles’ Life will be 1 o’clock Wednesday at Fletcher Funeral Service. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
