Obituary of Nellar Ruth Cox

Ruth Land Cox, widow of the late Charlie M. Cox, passed peacefully into her heavenly home on Friday, August 21, 2020 one day after her 98th birthday. She was surrounded by her family and the many caregivers at Quillen Manor, who adored Mrs. Ruth. Mrs. Ruth was born in Greenville county, SC to the late J D and Clara Knight Land. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her brothers Johnny and James Earl Land. Mrs. Ruth spent her early years taking care of her younger brothers, Johnny and James Earl, while her parents worked in the mill. She grew up on the mill village and made lifelong friends with her neighbors there. She went to work in the Woodside Mill and later at the Furman and Beattie Plant. After retirement, she began working at Hardee’s in Fountain Inn as a hostess, and loved chatting and serving coffee and smiles to her community. She lived her life to the fullest visiting all 50 states, Hawaii twice, Canada and the Bahamas and Mexico with retirees from Liberty Life. She loved cooking Sunday dinners for her family and entertaining on holidays. She liked nothing more than having a house full of people. She loved people and everyone who met her loved Mrs. Ruth. She attended Fountain Inn Wesleyan Church, where she taught children’s Sunday school for many years and served on the hospitality committee. She adopted many pastors of her church and they became a part of her family. Surviving, are her daughter, Linda with her husband Bob Trotter; grandchildren, Rene’ Davis with her husband Reggie, and Jason Trotter with his wife Gena and an “adopted grandson,” Anthony Wade; great-grandchildren, Jake Davis, Abby Davis, Savannah Trotter and Ella Trotter; sister-in-law, Margie Land; nieces, Janice Bush, Kathy Curry, Maleah Cox, Amanda White, Alyssa Land; nephews, Chris Land, Jeff Land, Blake Land and Jeremy Bush. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Caroline Rose Davis and nephew William Bush. Mrs. Ruth will be available for viewing from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Fletcher Funeral Service. Please practice social distancing and wearing of mask during this time. Graveside Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Cannon Memorial Park, officiated by Chaplin Jeff Grant.
