Obituary of Roger Thackston

Roger Calhoun Thackston, 81, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 5, 2023. Mr. Thackston was born in Simpsonville to the late Jones Christopher Thackston and Lilian Inez Rogers Thackston. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and the US Navy. He was a military history buff. Roger was an athlete and a sports fan. He played quarterback for Hillcrest High School and was a huge supporter of the Clemson Tigers. He was an avid golfer and collected a golf ball from each course that he ever played on. He enjoyed fishing throughout his lifetime. Surviving are a son, Scott Thackston with wife Kristin; a daughter, Kim Lue Qui; and four grandchildren, Andrew Forrester, Amber Lue Qui, Kendall Thackston, and Evan Thackston. He was predeceased by two brothers, Jerry Thackston and Jones Thackston; and two sisters, Joan Black and Jeanette Thackston. Graveside services, with Military Honors, will be 10 o’clock Wednesday at Graceland East Memorial Park.
