Obituary of Rev. James Beck

Rev. James Harold Beck, 66, husband of Sherry Wood Beck for 45 years, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 20, 2023.

Rev. Beck was born in Laurens to the late Jay Hardman Beck and Helen Gillespie Beck.  His ministry included pastoring Courts of Praise in Gray Court, House of Prayer in Simpsonville, and Highland Church of God of Prophecy in Greer.  He enjoyed fishing, kayaking, and trips to the mountains and the beach.  He loved spending time with his family and being “Papa” to his grandchildren.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, David Beck; a daughter, Jennifer Godfrey with husband Jeffrey; a brother, Wayne Beck with wife Norma; four sisters, Faye Lawson, Christine Hurst, Rachel Crocker with husband Keith, and Nancy Federline; five grandchildren, Patricia Beck, Duwayne Beck, Trinity Godfrey, Quentin Beck and Shelby Godfrey; and his beloved dog, Phoebe.

A Celebration of Pastor Beck’s Life will be 12 noon Thursday at Pelham Church of God of Prophecy.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.  Burial will follow at Graceland East Memorial Park.
