Obituary of Larry Joe Hawkins

Please share a memory of Larry Joe to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Larry Joe Hawkins, 77, husband of Dale Woods Hawkins for 54 years, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 25, 2023.

Mr. Hawkins was born in Fountain Inn to the late Wade Hampton Hawkins and Ivory Vandiver Hawkins.  He was a member and former deacon of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.  Larry Joe was a veteran of the US Army and the founder of Southeastern Electrical Distributors.  He was a motorcycle enthusiast at heart.  He rebuilt classic cars as a hobby.  Larry Joe enjoyed racing and had the honor of being the Golden Strip Speedway Champion one year.  He was a huge USC Gamecock fan.  He loved playing golf and poker with friends, and was quite a pool-shark in his day.  He enjoyed gardening (especially tomatoes) and making chow-chow.  But, Larry Joe’s greatest joy was being Papa to his granddaughters.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Ami Hawkins, and Julie Cordova with husband Jared; a brother, Rodger Hawkins with wife Sandy; three sisters, Dot Satterfield with husband Wofford, Brenda Dover with husband Tony, and Sandra Teague with husband Larry; and five granddaughters, Sydney Jones with husband Fendley, Emma Pulley with husband Colin, Carolina Cordova, Chloe Cordova, and Charleigh Cordova.  He was predeceased by two brothers, Doug Hawkins and J. Harold Hawkins; and a sister, Mot Friddle.

Visitation will be 5 – 7 o’clock Friday at Fletcher Funeral Service.

A Celebration of Larry Joe’s Life will be 2 o’clock Saturday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.  Burial, with Military Honors, will be in Cannon Memorial Park.
