Obituary of Betty Garrett

Please share a memory of Betty to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Betty Kenner McClure Garrett, 91, widow of Ralph Douglas Garrett, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 29, 2024.

Mrs. Garrett was born in the Judson Mill area of Greenville, SC to the late Raymond Boyd McClure and Beulah Mae Bagwell McClure.  She was raised in the Dunean area and was a graduate of West Gantt High School.  She was a member of Standing Springs Baptist Church where she served by helping cook the Wednesday evening meal for many years.  Betty retired as the Home Décor designer with Hendrick’s Builders.  She was a huge fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves.  She enjoyed riding in the golfcart and taking care of people.  She was enthusiastic about the N.C. Elk Restoration Project and could sit for hours enjoying the site of the majestic animal.  Betty loved camping trips to the mountains and card games with friends.  She was a collector of depression glass and Charleston memorabilia.

Surviving are a son, Johnny Garrett with wife Robyn; two daughters, Tammy Douglas with husband Paul, and Nancy Peters; a grandson, J.P. Garrett; three great-grandsons, Parker, Caleb and Chase; and special friends, Chase, Tyler and Emory.  She was predeceased by a brother, Rev. Jack McClure; and four sisters, Ruby McClure-Hawkins, Frances McClure Holcombe Fesperman, Evelyn McClure-Nixon and Margie McClure-Miller.

Graveside services will be 1 o’clock Friday in the Standing Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Memorials may be made to Prisma Health Hospice of the Foothills, 390 Keowee School Road, Seneca, SC 29672.
