Obituary of Betty McDonald Cooper

Elizabeth “Betty” McDonald Cooper, 87, widow of Vernon Reid Cooper, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 5, 2021. Mrs. Cooper was born in Greenwood County to the late William Perry McDonald, Sr. and Emma Mae Summer McDonald. She attended Lander University. Betty volunteered for years at Fountain Inn Elementary and later received her Nursing License from Greenville Technical College. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church where she served as the church organist and pianist for over 40 years. She enjoyed baking and decorating for Christmas. Her greatest love was being “Nana” to her granddaughters. Surviving are two daughters, Pat Booker, and Beth Black and husband Eddie; four grandchildren, Ashley Booker, Jessica Broyles and husband Ross, Lauren Black, Christy Huey and husband Alex; five great-grandchildren, Jaley, Reid, Lorelai, Luke and Sarah; her sister, Jean Cook; and her beloved Shih Tzu “Gizmo”. She was predeceased by one brother, Perry McDonald, Jr.; and two sisters, Frances Sperry and Miriam Farrow. The family will receive friends 2-3:30pm Thursday at Fletcher Funeral Service. A Celebration of Betty’s Life will follow at 3:30pm. Burial will be in Cannon Byrd Memorial Park. It is requested that guests wear a mask for the visitation and service.
