Obituary of Helen Mulford Warren
Please share a memory of Helen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Helen Olphelia Mulford Warren born in 1928 in Columbia, Mississippi (Marion County), went home to her heavenly Father on August 27, 2021.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bob) Warren, her parents, Johnnie Vester Mulford and Lou Ella Pittman Mulford, two brothers, Harry Laverne and Herman Dale, her daughter-in-law, Holly Williams Warren, and her grandson, Brett Mitchell Warren.
She is survived by her son Reggie Warren of Greenville, South Carolina along with his daughter, Lindsey, son-in-law Henry, and three great grandchildren, Brett Ella, Henry II, and Robert (Bo). Her poodles, Bretta and Bridgette were her constant companions and still run around the house looking for her.
Helen Warren was a mother, wife, and proud to say she started as a sales clerk at Gayfer’s then rose to be the regional manager for Rich’s. She lived in New Orleans, Montgomery, Pensacola, and Atlanta then came to Mobile where she was in charge of the Junior Department. Helen had an eye for fashion, fabric, and business. In the years she spent in the retail business she traveled to New York, California, and China where she established many lifelong friends. After she retired, Helen volunteered for eight years in the recreation department at Christ United Methodist Church.
Helen loved to cook for neighbors and friends. Her chicken and dumplings, coconut crème pound cake, and butternut squash were visitor favorites. Many guests said they could literally drink her roast beef gravy. Helen had a family she loved as much as her own, Peyton and Tim Walker and their three children from Hernando, Mississippi.
Helen was feisty in life, in her love of Christ, and in growing old with the energy to drive, cook, and dine out until age 92. She will be missed. Donations in her name may be made to Christ United Methodist Recreation Department.
A memorial will be held at Christ United Methodist Church in Mobile on Tuesday Sept., 14 at 11 AM. A private ceremony and burial will be held in Greenville, S.C. Helen will be buried beside her grandson Brett who died while attending The Citadel at the age of 19, thirteen days before his 20th birthday.
