Obituary of Bennett Ray Carpenter

Bennett Ray “Benny” Carpenter, 79, passed away peacefully with his loving wife and daughter by his side, Tuesday, September 28, 2021, after a short battle with cancer.
Mr. Carpenter was born in Travelers Rest to the late Fred David Carpenter and Ida Orene Pearson Carpenter. They made their home in the Double Springs Community in Taylors, SC.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Kathy Smith Carpenter, are a daughter, Kimberly Shivell and husband Andy and two granddaughters, Sara Grace Shivell and Mary Claire Shivell; two sisters, Kathy Lee and husband Scott, and Debbie Damery and husband Rod; two brothers, Donnie Carpenter and Fred Carpenter; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Harrison Carpenter, Harold Carpenter, and Johnny Carpenter; and a sister, Sue Everette.
He was a veteran of the US Army, 82nd Airborne Division. Benny retired as the owner of Benny Carpenter’s Fishing Guide Service, Co-owner of Upstate Bait Company and owner of two convenience stores in Simpsonville and Highway 101 in Woodruff. Benny was a huge fan of the Clemson Tigers.
His greatest loves were his grandchildren, Sara Grace Shivell and Mary Claire Shivell.
A Celebration of Benny’s Life, with military honors, will be held at 2 o’clock Saturday, November 6th, at Fletcher Funeral Service. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
