Please share a memory of Hugh to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Hugh Michael "Mike" McClellan, 76, of Simpsonville, SC, died on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, after a long illness. He was born March 10, 1945, in Miller, South Dakota, to the late Hugh and Blanche (Speirs) McClellan. Mike spent his formative years in Marienville, PA, where he attended East Forest High School. He later went on to study architectural engineering at Behrend College and business administration at La Salle University. He worked for Allegheny Airlines and later for US Airways, which brought him and his family to South Carolina, where he retired as a customer service supervisor in 1995. In retirement, he volunteered for St. Elizabeth Anne Seton Catholic Church, where he was an active member. A lifelong lover of athletics and games, he played minor league baseball as a young man and went on to coach girls softball for many years. He was an avid golfer and once constructed a full-size putt-putt course in his backyard for his kids. He loved dogs, arguing, and a good cup of coffee, but he especially loved his grandkids. If they needed a new bike, a hockey stick, a softball bat, or a giant dollhouse, they knew who to ask. He is survived by his wife, Rosalie Morosky McClellan of Simpsonville, SC; his son Thomas McClellan (Felicia) of Rock Hill, SC; daughters Michele Riggle (Matt) of State College, PA, Melissa Ludden (Jim) of Fairfax, VA, and Rebecca Smith (Allen) of Charlotte, NC; brothers Pat McClellan (Diane) of Butler, PA, and Jim McClellan (Annie) of Marienville, PA; sister Jane McClellan of Marienville, PA; five grandchildren, Rachel, Brendan, Michael, Mabel, and Frances; and his beloved dog, Brownie. He was preceded in death by his parents and many rescue dogs that he had cared for and provided a loving home to over the years. Due to the pandemic, funeral services will be held privately on Tuesday for immediate family. Please share memories and condolences on the website. In lieu of sending flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the ASPCA or the Greenville County Humane Society.
