Obituary of Amanda Kristen Wood

Amanda Kristen Wood of Easley, SC, concluded her 28 month long “battle” with cancer early Sunday morning, January 8, 2017. For 41 years Amanda amassed “life experience, knowledge and wisdom” rivaling those who lived to be twice her age. Amanda is survived by her parents, Walter and Cindy Wood, her sister, Anna Marie Wood, her brother, Scott Wood, her sister-in-law, Jennifer “Chrystal” Wood, two nieces, Nadia and Torie Wood, and a whole lot of uncles, aunts and cousins. After graduating as an Honor Student at Easley High School, Amanda attended Anderson College on a Music scholarship where she honed her skills as a violinist, playing not only at school but in a civic Orchestra in Anderson. Amanda never married but eventually arrived at a Residential Treatment Facility for children where she invested nearly 15 years. Known as “Miss Amanda” to over 300 children, she continued her service through the course of her chemotherapies, radiation treatments and surgeries until a loss of eyesight ended her ability to function. With the support and hard work of her many friends Amanda organized several “fund raisers” for the Cancer Society of Greenville. She was dedicated to “killing cancer”. A Memorial Celebration will be held at Cross Roads Baptist Church, 705 Anderson Ridge Road, Greer, SC, 29651, on Saturday, January 14th, at 1:00 PM. Her pastor, Rev. Michael Sheehan, and her Dad, Rev. Walter Wood will officiate. Amanda had prearranged for an “Ice Cream Fellowship” following the “Life Celebration” and she wanted everyone to stay and enjoy it while they talked together….so please do.
