Obituary of Mary Gassaway Crowe

Mary Louise Gassaway Crowe, 77, wife of Ken Crowe for 57 years, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 21, 2021. Mrs. Crowe was born in Woodruff to the late Homer Lee Gassaway and Vivian Geneva O’Shields Gassaway. She worked many years at Carolina Blouse and Enro Shirt Plant in Woodruff and Olympia Knitting in Spartanburg before retiring from Spartanburg District 4’s Woodruff Primary School cafeteria staff after 18 years of service. Mary was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where sang in the choir. She was very active in the GA’s, serving as president of the Spartan Association. She enjoyed gospel singing, word-search puzzles, reminiscing about special memories, and visiting Gatlinburg as often as possible. Mary was a collector of porcelain dolls and hummingbird figurines. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son, Ronald Crowe and companion Trisha Young; a daughter, Arminda Sloan and husband Steve; a grandson, Michael Sloan and wife Angie; five great-grandchildren, Scott Exum and wife Kristen, Whitney Exum, Kristen Exum, Sydney Sloan, and Jayden Ferguson; and four great-great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Easton, Gunner, and Jackson. She was predeceased by two brothers, Frank Gassaway and Charles Gassaway. The family will receive friends between 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Fletcher Funeral Service – Woodruff. A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be 1 p.m. Monday at Antioch Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Danny Garrett. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
