Obituary of Barbara Townes Stemple

Barbara Ellen Townes Stemple, 88, widow of Louis Vincent Stemple, Sr., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 12, 2021. Mrs. Stemple was born in Asheville, NC to the late Frank Lewis Townes, Sr. and Marguerite Mears Townes. She met her husband Lou at a USO function and they married in 1956. She spent most of her career as a legal secretary for Wright Horton and later for Dan Collins before retiring from Cherry, Bekaert, and Holland accounting firm as the Office Manager. Following retirement, she became the owner of Forget Me Knot Florist and Wade Hampton Florist. Barbara was a charter member of Woodruff Road Christian Church where she served in many areas of the church. She was also involved with Greenville County Women’s Republican Party for many years. Barbara was a survivor of breast cancer and believed deeply in helping others. She served as a Girl Scout Troop Leader and volunteered for the Pediatric Cancer Hospice program. Surviving are a son, Vince Stemple and wife Melissa; two daughters, Pam Lloyd and Kim Holthaus and husband Russ; a brother, Frank Lewis Haney Townes, Jr.; six grandchildren, Lauren Estes, Ashley Hartmann, Christopher Estes, Cassidy Lloyd, Michael Stemple, and Evan Stemple; and four great-grandchildren, Parker, Cohen, Aubrei, and Abraham. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sons, James Michael Stemple and David Todd Stemple; a brother, William Thomas Townes; two grandsons, Jeremy Michael Vickery and Bradley Carroll Estes; and a son-in-law, Lucius Lloyd. A Celebration of Barbara’s Life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Woodruff Road Christian Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
