Richard Fred “Dick” Peden, Sr., 88, husband of Edith June Bennett Peden for 68 years, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 20, 2021. Mr. Peden was born in Fountain Inn to William Harper Peden, Sr. and Mary Edna Cooper Peden. He was a member of Fairview Presbyterian Church where he had served as a Deacon, an Elder, and an Elder Emeritus. In 1980, Dick served on the committee to establish a church plant that became the Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church. He was proud to have attended Presbyterian College on a football scholarship. Dick retired from AT&T and worked a second career in the Dealer & Licensing Division of the SCDMV. He was a member of the Fountain Inn Masonic Lodge #213 and the HEJAZ Shriners. Dick was known as the “chief” of the Peden Clan. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed restoring classic trucks and cars, especially his “little red truck” and his Mustang. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Richard Peden, Jr. and wife Lynn; a daughter, Susan Gray and husband Stanley; a sister-in-law, Roxanne C. Peden; brother-in-law, Bill Bennett and wife, Martha; four grandchildren, Melissa G. Sorbello and husband Jeff, Will Peden and wife Sarah, Todd Gray and wife Samantha, and Matt Peden and wife Carlie; and two great-grandchildren, Lottie Peden and Sammy Sorbello. He was predeceased by a brother, William “Bill” Peden, Jr. A Celebration of Dick’s Life will be 11 o’clock Monday at Fairview Presbyterian Church, officiated by Rev. Jonathan Williams and Rev. Kenny Maple. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Fairview Presbyterian Church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Fairview Presbyterian Church, P.O.
