Obituary of Leonard Phillip Smeal

Leonard Phillip Smeal, 91, husband of the late Ruth Ann Smeal, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 10, 2022. Mr. Smeal was born in Niagara Falls, NY to the late Russel Ray Smeal and Beatrice Catherine Pollard Smeal. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired from B.F. Shaw. He was a member of Augusta Road United Methodist Church. Leonard was proud to be a scout master. He enjoyed golf, woodworking, and watching NASCAR. Surviving are four sons and their wives, Keith and Sarah Smeal, Leonard and Syndi Smeal, Steven and Pat Smeal, and Russell and Sharon Smeal; a sister, Margaret Martinez; fifteen grandchildren and thirty-one great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog Bandit. He was predeceased by a daughter, Patsy Smeal; two brothers and their wives, William and Carolyn Smeal, and Ronald and Janie Smeal; and a sister and her husband, Muriel and Piggy Brightwell. The family will receive friends 7 – 9 pm Thursday at Fletcher Funeral Service. A Celebration of Leonard’s Life will be 9:30 o’clock Friday at Augusta Road UMC, officiated by Rev. David B. Smith. Burial will be in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
