Obituary of Edward Franklin Fitch

Edward Franklin “Ed” Fitch, 84, husband of Paulette Schmucker Fitch for 44 years, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, February 21, 2022. Mr. Fitch was born in Savannah, GA to the late Carlyle Stewart Fitch and Catherine Margaret Broderick Fitch. He was a graduate of the Northrop Institute of Technology and retired as Chief Pilot with Vivendi Corporation. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Special Forces and a member of the Church at the Mill. Ed traveled the world through his work and became quite a history buff. He built models of WWII planes and had the privilege of flying some actual war planes. He was a family man who enjoyed fishing and trips to the beach. Ed was a longtime volunteer at Hope Remains Ranch, helping to mentor troubled youth through equine therapy and activities. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Marc Fitch and Kevin Fitch with wife Amanda; Tracey Powell, who was like a son to him for the past ten years; a sister, Elizabeth Fitch; and six grandchildren: Alex Knight, Caitlin Fitch, Adam Fitch, Ace Fitch, Matthew Fitch and James Fitch. The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm Tuesday in the chapel at Church at the Mill (4455 Anderson Mill Road in Moore). A Celebration of Ed’s Life will be at 3 o’clock Wednesday in the chapel at Church at the Mill, officiated by the Rev. Dr. D.J. Horton. Burial, with Military Honors, will be in Shiloh Memorial Cemetery (4040 New Cut Road in Inman). Memorials may be made to Hope Remains Ranch, 1771 John Dodd Road, Wellford, SC 29385.
