Obituary of Roy Lucas Coker

Roy “Lucas” Coker, 39, passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022. Mr. Coker was born in Simpsonville. He attended Hillcrest High School and played saxophone in the Marching Band. He was also active in theatre. Lucas participated in Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Hello Dolly and Oklahoma. He went on to support himself while graduating from Roosevelt College in Chicago, Illinois. Lucas was a keynote speaker at graduation because he completed his degree while being diagnosed with 4th stage colon cancer. As a commencement speaker, he encouraged students to keep their resolve no matter life’s challenges. He earned a BA in Criminal Justice and an MS in Criminal Justice and Corrections from the University of Cincinnati. Lucas was employed at Matchgroup as Senior Program Manager for Critical Safety Programs. He was passionate about his job and victim advocacy. Lucas is survived by his mother, Jerri Young Dover; two brothers, Seth Thomas Coker (Ashton) and Caleb Bryant-Joel Coker; a niece, Cameron Riley Coker; and nephew, Bryson Lanford; two aunts, Glenna Coker, Cindy Coker; and two uncles, David Coker with wife Rhonda and Dennis Young; cousins, David Coker, jr. and Lauren Pitzer; and his best friend, Dane Jardine. He was predeceased by his father, Roy (Gary) Coker; and grandparents, Ruby and Roy Coker, sr. and Billie and Garvin Young.
