Obituary of James Clement Tanner

James Clement “Jimmy” Tanner, Jr., 76, husband of LeNelle Holland Tanner for 46 years, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 19, 2022. Mr. Tanner was born in Greenville to the late James Clement Tanner, Sr. and Luchia Adelaide Hester Tanner. He retired from FiberWeb and was a member of Five Forks Baptist Church. Jimmy was a veteran of the US Navy, having served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a Seabee. He spent most of his free time in the outdoors. He loved hunting, gardening and cutting wood. Jimmy always had some type of project to keep him busy. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons and their wives, Rev. Walt and Betsy Tanner, and Justin and Kristin Tanner; two sisters and their husbands, Sherry and Bob Greenwell, and Patti and Frank Hilburn; three wonderful grandsons, Luke Tanner, Eli Tanner, and Trevor Tanner; and a fourth grandson due to arrive soon. A Celebration of Jimmy’s Life, with Military Honors, will be 4 o’clock Tuesday at Capstone Church, officiated by Dr. Howard Foster and Rev. Walt Tanner. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. A private burial with family only will be in Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery earlier Tuesday.
