Obituary of Mary Jo Allison McKelvey Moore

Mary Jo Allison McKelvey Moore, 93, widow of William Harold “Bill” Moore, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 4, 2022. Mrs. Moore was born in New Prospect, SC to the late Carl Allison and Reba Hendricks Allison. She attended Pacolet First Baptist Church. Mary Jo was passionate about work, she owned and operated multiple restaurants, including the Lake Bowen Fish Camp and the Lighthouse Fish Camp. She was also the founder of Widow Maker Golf Course (now the Palmetto Hills Golf Club). Being an entrepreneur came naturally to her and she, with her husband Bill, built and sold many homes in the area. She collected antiques and loved her cats. Surviving are three sons, Ken McKelvey with wife Rachel, Leland McKelvey, and Danny Moore with wife Lisa; two daughters, Mary Ella Brown and Susanne Moore; eight grandchildren, Ray McKelvey with wife Shannon, Jason McKelvey with wife Marsha, Jeff Brown with wife Evaline, Stacey Randall with husband Norm, Valerie Croke with husband Ryan, Dustin McKelvey, Gage Bolden, and Caroline Moore-Barefoot; and ten great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son-in-law, Steve Brown; a sister, Lillian Bradford and a grandson, Eric McKelvey. A Celebration of Mary Jo’s Life will be 2 o’clock Friday at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC, officiated by Rev. Tommy Sparks. The family will receive friends at 1 o’clock at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel prior to the service. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park following the service. Flowers may be sent to Floyd’s Memorial Chapel or memorials may be made to Spartanburg County Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303; or to Samaritans Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607. The family will be at 281 Coggins Shore Drive, Inman, SC on Thursday and Friday.
