Obituary of Aleta Kirby Benner

Aleta Kirby Benner, 88, widow of Lloyd Alton Benner, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 13, Aleta was born in Simpsonville to the late William Godfrey Kirby, Sr. and Carrie Ettis Norris Kirby. She retired from Kemet Electronics. Aleta was a member of Holly Ridge Baptist Church where she served in the nursery for over 19 years. She loved dressing her granddaughters for church and working with the nursery & children’s programs. She had an extensive interest in and love for her extended family. Aleta was more than just a Clemson fan – as a devout supporter of her Tigers, her sons described her as a Coach Dabo Groupie. She traveled near and far to attend practices, games and functions throughout the years. The Tiger Tailgate had to be inspected and approved by mama. Surviving are a son, David Benner with wife Allison; two brothers, Eddie Kirby with wife Mary Ann, and Ron Kirby; and four grandchildren, Kirby Benner, Tyler Benner, Judy Benner and Lucy Benner. She was predeceased by a son, Gary Benner; and a brother, Bill “Sonny” Kirby, Jr. A Celebration of Aleta’s Life will be 2 o’clock Saturday at Holly Ridge Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Josh Culbertson. Burial will be in Cannon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service between 12:30 – 1:45 pm. Memorials may be made to Open Arms Hospice – Volunteer Funding, 1836 W.
