Obituary of Susanna Richardson Whiten

Please share a memory of Susanna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Susanna Richardson Whiten, 78, widow of CMSGT George William “Billy” Whiten, Jr., USAF Retired, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 31, 2022. Mrs. Whiten was born in Greenville to the late Graves Furman Richardson and Joyce Oline Willis Richardson. She grew up in Simpsonville and Fountain Inn and always told everyone she met of her love for her hometown. She was so proud of her heritage and deep family roots. She grew up in Fountain Inn First Baptist Church, but has been a member of Taylors First Baptist Church for the last 30 years. Her faith was so important to her and an integral part of her life. Susanna’s love for her family was immeasurable. She was affectionately known as “Mama Sue” to all who knew her. She enjoyed writing, poetry, decorating, and dancing; especially the Shag. She was an ardent admirer of trees and wildlife. Susanna was the epitome of Southern Grace. She was soft-spoken, loving, kind, gentle, non-judgemental, unselfish, supportive, and a stickler for good manners. She was the trusted steward of family heirlooms; and she took it quite seriously. Surviving are a son, Kadd Richardson Masters with partner Joseph Espinal; four daughters, Mandy Powell with husband Jeff, Anna Shea Clifford with husband Mark, Mia Jane Masters with husband Jay Richardson, and Linda Whiten Coffin with husband Nathan; friend, Brenda Masters; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Powell with wife Megan, Cole Powell, Lillie Joyce Williams, Shelby Leigh Cooley with husband Jeffrey, Kierce Coffin, and Keegan Coffin; seven great-grandchildren, Posie Paige Powell, Ashton Cooley, Alana Cooley, Logan Cooley, Lexie Tate, Ashton Tate, and Huntleigh Tate; a nephew, Richard Wyatt Chambers; and her beloved maltese, Henry. She was predeceased by a sister, Jane Dickerson; and Stanley Masters – her high school sweetheart, beloved husband for 23 years, and father of her four children. They remained so close until the very end. A Celebration of Susanna’s Life will be 11 o’clock Friday, January 13th at Fletcher Funeral Service. The family will receive friends an hour prior. Burial will follow at 2 o’clock in Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Dementia Society of America, PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901; or online at www.DementiaSociety.org/donate.
