Obituary of Major Rector

Major Dewhitt Rector, 76, husband of Nancy Elizabeth Campbell Rector for 53 years, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 8, 2023. Mr. Rector was born in Greenville, SC to the late Fletcher James Rector and Mildred May Martin Rector. He was a member of Sandy Springs Baptist Church and the McCuen Sunday School Class. He retired as a welder with Hartness International and could build almost anything. Major coached little league ball and enjoyed horses, farming, fishing, arts & crafts. He cherished being Poppy to his granddaughter Carter. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Jamie Rector with fiancé Michelle, and Jeremy Rector with wife Erica; three brothers, Roger Rector with wife, Glenda Sue, Edward Rector with wife Rita, and Raymond Rector with wife Louise; a sister, Bonnie Coquin with husband Jean Pierre; and a granddaughter, Carter Adair Rector. He was predeceased by a brother, Floyd Rector; and two sisters, Shirley King and Barbara Chandler. A Celebration of Major’s Life will be 4 o’clock Tuesday at Sandy Springs Baptist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. A private burial will be 1 o’clock Friday at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
