Obituary of Elena Hipps

Elena King Hipps, 91, widow of William Talmadge Hipps, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 16, 2023. Mrs. Hipps was born in Fork Shoals to the late Carl Earl King and Helen Ruth Sims King. She and Talmadge were founding members Rosemont Baptist Church in Waterloo and she was currently a member of Temple Baptist Church. She retired from W.R. Grace & Company. Elena was an avid reader and enjoyed puzzles, camping, and gospel concerts. She was a collector of souvenir travel spoons and rocks. Surviving are a son, Gene Hipps with wife Denise; three daughters with their husbands, Pam and Herman Sloan, Susan and John Harrington, and Debbie and Mendle Jackson; a brother, Cecil King with wife Charlotte; eight grandchildren, Joy Sloan, Amanda Engley with husband Caleb, Amber Taibbi with husband Michael, Candace Balcombe with husband Kyle, Patrick Sloan with wife Amy, Gene Hipps, Jr. with wife Jeni, Josh Hipps, and Matt Alexander; and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, Herman King and Therman King; and two sisters, Vivian Stallings and Betty Thompson. A Celebration of Elena’s Life will be 12 noon on Thursday at Fletcher Funeral Service, officiated by Rev. Brett Aiken. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
