Obituary of Russell Knighton

Please share a memory of Russell to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Arthur Russell Knighton (March 30, 1930-September 28, 2023)

Russell Knighton, a lifelong resident of Simpsonville, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday morning, September 28, 2023.  Born on March 30, 1930, to Boyd Lee Knighton and Cora Elizabeth (Manly) Knighton, Russell was a proud and active member of Simpsonville United Methodist Church and the Thalia Pollard Sunday School Class until a period of declining health.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wesley and Lawrence Knighton; a sister, Blanche Knighton Padgett; and a niece, Jeanie Elizabeth Knighton.  He is survived by nephews, Barry Lee Paris of Gray Court and his children Carla, Crystal, and Zane; and Dr. Larry Russell Knighton of Anderson and his children, William Bennett Knighton and Logan Denver Clark (Savannah); loving family, and a host of lifelong special friends.

Russell began working at an early age at Armstrong-Todd Grocery in Simpsonville and then later served as a teller at the Farmer’s Bank of Simpsonville.  Until retirement some thirty years ago, he served as an Assistant Vice-President and Loan Officer at various other banks, finally retiring with Bank of America.  Since retirement, he enjoyed visiting with friends, cutting grass, gathering pecans and figs, and in his words “rambling about the community”.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, September 30 at Fletcher Funeral Service, 1218 North Main Street in Fountain Inn, SC at 10 AM. The family will receive friends immediately after the service at the mortuary and interment will follow in the Simpsonville City Cemetery.

In addition to a host of faithful friends, the family expresses heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at The Pearl at Five Forks and Family Hospice for the loving care and attention which Russell received during these final days of his life.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorials be made to Simpsonville United Methodist Church, 215 South East Main Street, Simpsonville, SC. 29681.
