Obituary of Pauline Schofield

Please share a memory of Pauline to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Pauline Elizabeth Cooley Schofield, 92, widow of Roy E. Schofield, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.

Mrs. Schofield was born in Gray Court, SC to the late William Furman Cooley and Lizzie Mae Collins Cooley. She was a lifetime member of Dials Methodist Church where she served as the church organist and pianist for many years. She retired from Laurens County School District as dietician at Pleasant View Primary and Gray Court-Owings.  Her other talents included sewing, cooking and beautiful handwork.  One of her greatest joys in life was time spent supporting her family and friends.

Mrs. Schofield and her husband had a lifelong partnership.  They worked hard to build a good life for their children.  Outside of Mr. Schofield’s career as an engineer, they had several business “adventures” that showcased their entrepreneurial spirits.

Surviving are three daughters and their husbands, Jane and John McCarter, Ann and Rick Wynn, and Beth and Joe Scherpenberg; a brother, Ralph Cooley with wife June; two sisters, Martha Martin and Betty Fulbright; a sister-in-law, Juanita Cooley; four grandchildren, Matthew McCarter with wife Maranatha, Meredith McCarter with fiancé Nolan Hazelbaker, Leslie Reid with husband A.J., and Hampton Stroble; and five great-grandchildren, Lux, Vivian, Obie, Dash, and Banner. She was predeceased by a brother, William Cooley; a sister, Sara James; and three brothers-in-law, Dwight Martin, Jerry Fulbright, and Loy James.

A Celebration of Mrs. Schofield’s Life will be held at a later date. Burial will be private in the Dials Methodist Church Cemetery officiated by the Rev. Kevin Cooley.

We would like to extend a heartfelt “thank-you” to Ida Boyd and Sara Dendy for the love and compassionate care they provided to our mother. We will be forever grateful for the blessings you both were.

Memorials may be made to Dials Methodist Church, PO Box 555 Gray Court, SC 29645; or to the Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011 Washington, DC 20090-6011.
