Obituary of William Robert Barton, Sr.

William Robert “Bob” Barton, Sr., 91, husband of Mamie Lou Christopher Barton for 69 years, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 4, 2023.

Mr. Barton was born in Ekom, SC to the late Niley James Barton and Marie Simmons Barton.  He was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.  Bob was a Korean War veteran of the US Army and a retiree of Ryder P.I.E.  He was a member of Bailey Masonic Lodge and the Local 28 Teamsters Union.  Bob was affectionately known as the Lawn Ranger for his steadfast grass cutting regimen.  He raised cows and enjoyed gardening. 

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, W.R. “Bobby” Barton, Jr. with wife Nini; a daughter, Cindy Godfrey with husband Shane; two brothers, Tom Barton with wife Gail, and David Barton; a sister, Grace Harrell with husband Jerry; seven grandchildren, Brittany Damani with husband Sonny, Lauren McGaha with husband Tim, Shelby Barton, Luke Barton, Pam Minkler, Chris Minkler with wife Caroloyn, and Sheena Simpson with husband David; and seventeen great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by a brother, Albert Barton; and two sisters, Letha Canty and Shirley Abercrombie.

A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Ebenezer United Methodist Church.  The family will receive friends for 30 minutes prior to the service.
